The Weapons of Reign of Kings
[edit | edit source]

Weapon variety in this game offers a broad range of medieval weaponry including melee, bows, crossbows and siege machinery. By standard, weapons are used to attack/kill other living creatures and players. They are also used to defend yourself, should you not be the aggressor at the time of usage. Melee weapons come in many forms from daggers, maces and axes to halberds, swords and war hammers. There is only one of each bow and crossbow but a nice selection of ammunition types for bows, however crossbows aren't so lucky in that there is only one available ammunition type, albeit very powerful. The siege machinery includes placeable objects that require manning, reloading and proper operation to use successfully. Typically siege machinery is used to destroy structures of blocks or other durable objects.

Usage & Strategies
[edit | edit source]

Melee:

  • Holding right mouse button, provided you have sufficient Stamina, will cause you to block with the weapon. Blocking an attack causes a parry, which allows you to instantly retaliate. Head shots do significantly more damage.
  • When fighting against other players, the overhead and stab attack is discouraged, whilst the overhead can strike people across the head, you must aim precisely to achieve the effect. Not to mention, both of these attacks are more predictable, allowing the enemy to dodge and simply move to the left or right, the regular slash attack is the most versatile with its wide attack range and above average speed. The slash attack can also be predicted to be blocked. To minimize this, use feints which are performed by initiating the attack, and right-clicking as soon as possible. Feints are 'fake attacks' that trick the enemy into blocking, allowing for a swift strike afterwards. Skilled players, however, may be able to see through a feint leaving you open for attack.

Crossbow:

  • This two-handed projectile weapon that can only be crafted from an Advanced Fletcher. The crossbow behaves very differently compared to its counterpart the Wooden Short Bow. The bow reigns supreme in close quarters due to its relatively fast rate of fire, its ammo is also cheap to craft in the initial stages of the game with multiple kinds of ammunition to craft depending on the resources available. The crossbow however is the exact opposite, the crossbow fires at a much slower pace than the bow but maintains its superiority through range as well as accuracy, the bolts that it fires fly at a VERY long distance, allowing the player to compensate for drop easily by aiming either directly or just above the desired target. The crossbow currently has only one kind of ammunition available to it - Steel Bolts, a very high-damage projectile, but respectively expensive to craft as it requires Steel Ingots.
  • It is important to note that once the crossbow is equipped, the character automatically attempts to chamber the bolt onto the firing mechanism of the crossbow, this takes several seconds and can be cancelled in between the animation without the loss of any ammunition, however once the crossbow has been reloaded, it permanently takes 1 bolt away from your inventory. This is important to note because once you switch or unequip the crossbow with the bolt not fired, that bolt is lost forever, if you have accidentally done this and wish to keep the ammunition it is best to fire the bolt at the ground and retrieve the bolt.

Ranged Weapons including Ballista:

  • Holding right mouse click while aiming and shooting allows you to trigger the Projectile Follow Camera. The intended purpose for this is mainly to improve your aim, but it also makes good screenshots and videos.

Siege:

  • Check out the Siege Strategies page for detailed information about the usage of siege machinery.
